Old Gold, New Way….

In India, we live, eat and breathe gold as far as jewelry is concerned. Most of the jewelry designs in gold have been very traditional up till now, but the designs below break the norm. They are versatile, trendy and exquisite. So, you can have a great return on your investment (in gold) and stay stylish too.

(P.S. : The big chunky necklace and the kamarband totally have my name on them)

Hope you all are having a great weekend.

They are all super beautiful! I love the draped chains on the big necklace, and the first image (bracelets?), the metal is so delicate looking. They look very ethereal!

you know, this is one thing I will never understand about western culture. they love jewelry too, but they would rather spend £1000 on a lanvin necklace that is made out of ribbon and plastic, instead of buying something REAL like gold! Gold is always classic, it can be melted down and made into something else, and it always keeps its value. I would rather save up and buy *real* jewelry!!

I love the gold jewelry you have displayed. Very elegant pieces. But in India also, specially North India, people are going in for more of diamond, than gold jewelry.

Loved them. Exotic.

frankly I hate gold. I dread getting married because I worry my parents are going to coax me into wearing some hideous looking goldset that I don't want to be assosiated with.
But but but! You have put up some very pretty looking, contemporary designs of the metal and believe me I am totally changing my mind!

@anamika - thanks

@charlotte - yeah that one is my favorite..how cool it would look with a maxi..

@leia - totally agree...we spend so much anyways on clothes etc which have no investment value..at least in jewelery we can exercise some wisdom..:)

@kiran - yeah diamonds are sure catching up with urban population and ppl who can afford them...

@strawberry -thanks :)

@goddess of boho - giving monstrous gold sets on marriage is sure a 1000 years old tradition in india..even i was not spared.but that's exactly the point i wanted to make with this post..that you can still buy gold in weddings but it need not be anicient looking..it can be trendy and totally wearble..hope this eases your fears a bit :)

@betz, vogue vibes and style she - thanks ladies :)

i've always wondered who makes these pieces!! you enter a normal shop and it's pretty much traditional here...still...

Sovina said...

@katie - thanks dear:)

@splurgy - yeah of lately there have been a huge leap towards more modern designs in gold and i think it totally makes sense too..otherwise how many times you are expected to wear your heavy gold set..

@jessica & god made me funk - thanks :)..glad you like them

@nalini- hey !thanks for following..glad that you like them..and no definitely not my collection...most of these are from Tanishq ...the famous indian jewelry chain..

@uncommon gold- yeah ..white gold also has some excellent designs..mostly modern designs..

@Tanvi - thanks:)..

@Aqua - thanks for stopping be dear :)

@upasna - oh! these pieces are very easily available..most of them are Tanishq's collection..in fact Tanishq is one chain that has quite a few modern designs like these..I went to tanshiq lot of times during my wedding shopping..the big chunky necklace is from a designer Anaikka who has stores in Mumbai..she makes them in 18 carat gold and has pretty interesting collection..but i guess the traditional one shop types gold stores would have more traditional designs as this is what the public demands :)

There is no flamboyance as comes with gold!
And if we add classy to that...it’s royal to the core:-)

Aaahh how could there not be the Midas touch?! I have successfully gone from gold-hater to gold-digger, except for with a rebel! :) The bestest gold accessory I love is a chunk gold chronograph watch. Wishlist item. :) Other than that, I am not a jewelry person anyway so nothiung much. But I do like white gold and petite pieces. I can go for anything long and dangling or hoops in the ears! :) How are you Sovviiiiina my love?! Join Facebook na--masti karenge!
